Qualifying Round in Australia
The Australian regional competition to qualify for the semi-finals of the upcoming Tango Dance World Cup will be held tomorrow, Saturday 11 July, at the Sir John Clancy auditorium in the East suburban area of Sidney. The dancing couples will be contesting in the categories Stage Open and Salon Open, as well as in four new local categories: Salon Dancing with a Stranger Open, Salon Beginners, Milonga Amateur and Vals Amateur.
The event will be attended by national and international judges and former winners of the Australian competition, and the music will be delivered by the Sydney Youth Orchestra’s Tango Oz, led by Maggie Ferguson. The objectives of the championship are many: to expand and promote Argentine tango culture in Australia, to create a community event that everyone can feel they can participate in, to give Australia’s best tango dancers the opportunity to take part in the World Cup and to have all participants, whether spectators or dancers, experience a high-quality cultural event.
