Orquesta Leopoldo Federico

Bandoneonist, composer and director Leopoldo Federico boasts a 65-year career which covers many periods. During what came to be known as “the golden decade of tango,” he took part in such dissimilar orchestras as those of Alfredo Gobbi, Osmar Maderna, Carlos Di Sarli and Horacio Salgán, among others. But he also went through more difficult times for the genre, in trios and quartets. However, there was always a common denominator: his predilection for the typical orchestra. “It is my great family,” he has summed up in many an occasion, and facts attest to his words. With its over half-century existence, his own orchestra is the oldest currently active and with it he accompanied singer Julio Sosa between 1960 and 1964. His appearance in the Festival will be enriched by the presentation of the book by Jorge Dimov and Esther Echenbaum Jonisz, Leopoldo Federico, el Inefable Bandoneón del Tango. He will be once again leading the group of musicians from different generations who form his orchestra: Damián Bolotin, Brigita Danko, Pablo Agri and Mauricio Svidovsky (violin), Diego Sánchez (violoncello), Horacio Cabarcos (double bass), Nicolás Ledesma (piano), Carlos Gari (vocals) and Horacio Romo, Héctor Léttera and Carlos Corrales (bandoneon).
