Ballet Contemporáneo del Teatro San Martín

Choreographer Mauricio Wainrot created this work drawing on the music of Antonio Vivaldi’s The Four Seasons and Astor Piazzolla’s series comprised of Verano Porteño, Otoño Porteño, Invierno Porteño and Primavera Porteña (summer, autumn, winter and spring in Buenos Aires) –recorded by celebrated Latvian violinist and director Gidon Kremer and collected under the title Las Ocho Estaciones (The Eight Seasons)–. It was premiered in 2001 in Antwerp (Belgium), with the Royal Ballet of Flanders, and a year later it was staged in Buenos Aires with the Ballet Contemporáneo del Teatro San Martín (the Contemporary Ballet of Teatro San Martín), which Wainrot has directed since 1999. With costume design by Carlos Gallardo and lighting design by Eli Sirlin, the performance is, in Wainrot’s words, “a cyclical journey divided into sixteen movements where climates, just like in the score, alternate with experiences and abstractions. There are no stories but atmospheres.” Las Ocho Estaciones is now back onstage, recreated by remarkable artistes of the official company.
