Qué saben los pitucos's biography
Qué Saben los Pitucos translates as What do Pitucos Know?, “pitucos” being the slang word used in the past to refer to people from a high social class. The claim that “pitucos” knew nothing about tango could be effective for tango lyrics in the forties, but the fact remains that tango music and dance were highly enriched when they became widespread among the higher classes at the beginning of the 20st century. At any rate, tango had a democratising effect in the Porteño society. The essays in Matallana’s book deal with this influence, while considering tango’s ways of production, its expansion and construction through different media.
