Biography
Juan Carlos Copes: El Homenaje's biography
The exquisite milonga tradition of the local clubs, combined with his instinctive genius made Juan Carlos Copes the artist who revolutionised the history of tango-dance. He was the one to bring status to this scenic language, ever since the 1950s and 1960s. No dancer of the following generations can deny the influence of Copes. The father of tango-ballet, a pioneer in Broadway, a legend of the venue Caño 14, “Pichuco’s” buddy, a key member of the revue Tango Argentino and a star of Carlos Saura’s cinema: with his nearly six-decade career Copes enjoys worldwide renown as a dancer, teacher and choreographer. For his tribute, Johana Copes and Aurora Lubiz gathered a selection of dancers to recreate fragments of his works. Featuring Marcelo Bernadaz, Verónica Albarenga, Eduardo Villegas, Verónica Gardella, Silvia Toscano, Ángel Coria, Natalia Hills, Esteban Domenichini, Carola Ojeda, Maximiliano Martino Ávila, Cecilia Saia, Fabián Irusquibelar, Magdalena Valdez, Facundo Gallo, Cecilia González and Demián García, as well as other surprise guest artists.
