Celebration in the "Tango Day"
This Friday 11/12 at 12.30 pm at the Astor Piazzolla pedestrian walk (Av. Roque Sáenz Peña and Libertad, a few meters from the Obelisco) a traditional celebration will be held commemorating “Tango Day” with the performance of the Buenos Aires City Tango Orchestra along with Susana Rinaldi, directed by Raúl Garello, Néstor Marconi and Juan Carlos Cuacci. It will be an excellent opportunity to celebrate also the recent declaration of tango as World Heritage by UNESCO. Entrance will be free.

Tango is Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity and Buenos Aires will celebrate this on Saturday and Sunday at 7 pm in the corner of San Juan and Boedo streets. On Saturday the line up includes: Cantores de Típica, the Japanese winning couple in the “Salon Tango” category of the Dance World Cup, Malena Muyala, the Vale Tango orchestra, and the singers Ariel Ardit and Esteban Riera (who will premiere the tango “Veredas de las dos orillas”, especially written for this occasion). On Sunday, Uruguayan Rubén Rada will premiere the song “Araca con el tango”, Susana Rinaldi (photo) will sing together with the Orquesta del Tango de la Ciudad, and the Argentine couple who won the “Stage Tango” category of the Dance World Cup will dance. The Tango is Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity
The tango is officially Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity in a decision made by UNESCO’s Intergovernmental Committee for the Safeguarding of Intangible Cultural Heritage in Abu Dhabi (United Arab Emirates) during this week. Argentina and Uruguay presented tango’s candidacy representing the cities of Buenos Aires and Montevideo because both “share the birth, tradition, and passion for the tango,” according to a statement made by the Argentine Embassy in Abu Dhabi. There will be celebrations in both of the cities in the banks of Río de la Plata. Today, Wednesday 30 in Montevideo, there will be a tribute in the Sur neighborhood opposite the monument in the memory of Carlos Gardel. This Friday 2 and Saturday 3 in Buenos Aires, in the super porteña corner of San Juan and Boedo streets, there will be a great open milonga with fantastic artists, the Orquesta de Tango de la Ciudad, and the recently winning couples of the Dance World Cup and Festival in the categories “Salon Tango” and “Stage Tango”.
El tango, patrimonio cultural inmaterial de la humanidad
Buenos Aires se prepara para festejar con todo el ingreso del tango a la nueva lista de bienes inmateriales y culturales protegidos de la UNESCO. Este viernes 2 y sábado 3, en la portenísima esquina de San Juan y Boedo, habrá una gran milonga abierta para celebrar el hito. La nominación oficial se concretará el viernes, una vez finalizada la reunión del Comité Intergubernamental para la Salvaguardia del Patrimonio Inmaterial y Cultural de la Unesco, en Dubai, capital de los Emiratos Arabes Unidos.
THE INTIMATE STORY OF THE “SALON TANGO” CATEGORY WINNERS
As described by the daily newspaper Clarín last Monday, the story of Hiroshi and Kyoko Yamao, the brand-new winners of the “Salon Tango” category, is absolutely related to tango. “He is 39 and she is 35 years old. They met while dancing tango, and currently teach tango and are the owners of a milonga in the capital of Japan. In their own words: ‘We came five times to Buenos Aires to take part in the World Championship. This was definitely the last time we were to participate, but ended up being the best,'” explains the article published by Argentina’s leading newspaper.
TOTAL SUCCESS: OVER 300 THOUSAND PEOPLE
After two weeks of activities, the Tango World Championship and Festival has come to an end with record audience: 308 thousand people have attended this event with 170 thousand people at the festival and 138 at the Tango World Championship. Out of the total audience, and in accordance with a survey conducted at Harrods’ information stand, 20% of the people were tourists interested in discovering, getting to know and/or improve their taste for all kinds of tango.
THE “STAGE TANGO” CATEGORY FINALS
2009-08-31The “Stage Tango” category finals of the Tango World Championship is to take place this Monday at 7 pm at the Luna Park Stadium (Corrientes y Bouchard). There be 20 couples competing for the category world championship with an estimated audience of six thousand people and a panel of expert judges. Performing at this event will be singers Raúl Lavié and Elena Roger along with José “Pepe” Colángelo, having Mora Godoy as choreography director.

The successful result of the Japanese couple, husband and wife Kyoko and Hiroshi Yamao, in the “Salon Tango” category and the series of emotions lived last Saturday night at the Luna Park Stadium have been reflected the worldwide media through the news agencies EFE and AFP.
DESDE CORDOBA, CAMPEONES DEL MUNDO
The mythical Buenos Aires Luna Park, with over six thousand attendants, was the setting for the finals of the Tango World Championship "Stage Tango" category. The first place went to Jonathan Spitel and Betsabet Flores, from the capital of the province of Córdoba. In second position, Cristian David Correa and Manuela Rossi, from Villa Allende (Córdoba), and in third position came Cristian Andrés López and Nao Tsutsumishita, from Tokyo (Japan).

The Japanese couple, husband and wife, Yamao and Kyoko Yamao, wan the “Salon Tango” category of the Tango World Championship last night at the fantastic Saturday lived at the Buenos Aires Luna Park Stadium. The second and third positions went to Colombian Edwin León and Jennifer Arango Agudelo, and Argentine Jorge Mariño and Sara Parnigoni, respectively.
