SALON TANGO: TONIGHT IS “THE” NIGHT
This Saturday at 7 pm the finals of “Salon Tango” category of the Tango World Championship where 38 couples who had classified on Friday and 2 coming from the Buenos Aires City Tango Championship will be competing is to take place at the Luna Park Stadium (location of great sports and cultural events since the mid-20th century). Performing tonight will be singer Julia Zenko and the Johanna Copes ballet plus some other live “surprise.”
TANGO IN SPANISH AND FRENCH
The French-Spanish film, fully Argentine in spirit, “Crepúsculo rojo” (Dans le rouge du couchant, as it is originally entitled in French) directed by Edgardo Cozarinsky, will be projected this Saturday at 1 pm at Harrods' micro cinema within the successful film projection segment of the Tango World Championship and Festival.
IT IS A PASSION
This last Saturday of the Tango World Championship and Festival at 7 pm at Harrods, the audience may enjoy the debut of Sentir en Tango, formed by poets, musicians and singers who have come together with the sole purpose of sharing new tango expressions. Poet Ernesto Pierro, active communicator of the tango culture and co-founder of the associations Autoconvocados por el Tango and Letrango, will be the host.
AN AFTERNOON WITH VERY CELEBRATED ARTISTS
Performing this Saturday at 5 pm at Harrods, within the “Panorama” section of the Tango World Championship and Festival will be Argentine well-known artists María Estela Monti and Marcelo Boccanera (featuring Liliana Cassini). Monti is to present her fourth solo album “Solo Piazzolla,” which pays tribute to master Astor. Boccanera, in turn, will offer a classical repertoire focused on the ‘40s, generally considered the “golden decade of tango” in Argentina.
MASTER JUAN CARLOS COPES
The great dancer, choreographer and instructor Juan Carlos will be giving, this Saturday from 1 pm at Harrods, a fee-payable master class for advanced learners on his tango art. Those interested in the class may register at the Information Point of Harrods' central hall.
THE BIG CLOSING MILONGA
Everything shall come to an end… The “Stage Tango” category finals on Monday at the Luna Park will be the closing of the Tango World Championship and Festival; however, this Sunday beginning in the afternoon, there will be a special segment at Harrods, the home for tango in Buenos Aires in the last two weeks. This will be an all “typical” and “characteristic” cheerful time for dance, featuring Los Reyes del Tango and La Orquesta Característica de Aníbal Gómez.
APRENDER Y PERFECCIONAR
El último día pleno de acción en Harrods, en esta edición 2009 del Festival y Mundial de Baile, ofrece la oportunidad de aprender y perfeccionar técnicas de baile con destacados profesionales, para todos los niveles. A las 14 h habrá una clase para principiantes, a cargo de los profesores del Estudio La Mariposita de San Telmo. A la misma hora, para avanzados y con un arancel a pagar, Teté Rusconi y Silvia Ceriani dictarán una clase sobre “variaciones musicales”.
IN SEARCH FOR LOST TANGO
“Notas de tango” (Rafael Filipelli, 2000), is the film to be projected this Sunday at 1 pm at Harrods’ micro cinema within the Tango World Championship and Festival’s movies segment. The story goes from documentary to fiction, with the special characteristics of a cinema director trying to shoot a tango movie while looking for an actor to star his movie, working on the preliminary production and doing some research.
VIVALDI AND PIAZZOLA BY THE SAN MARTIN BALLET
This Friday at 1 pm at Teatro San Martín (Corrientes 1530), the Contemporary Ballet of the San Martín Theatre will be performing a play by choreographer Mauricio Wainrot, based on “The Eight Seasons” by Antonio Vivaldi (“The Four Seasons”) and Astor Piazzolla (“Verano-otoño-primavera-invierno porteño,” with compositions by violinist and director Gidon Kremer.
ESTEBAN RIERA, PROMISING TALENT
Young singer Esteban Riera will be the star of the evening of the Tango World Championship and Festival performing at Harrods on Friday at 7 pm. Playing with him will be Julián Hermida (guitar) and Juanjo Hermida (piano). He will be presenting a repertoire based on his two solo albums “Soy cantor” and “Tal vez será su voz.”
