TANGO WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP SEMI-FINALS
Tango World Championship semi-finals, both categories, are to be disputed this Friday at Tango Porteño (Cerrito 570, opposite the Obelisco) as per the following time schedule. At, 11 am, under the category “Salon Tango,” 85 couples will be competing to reach to the final to be held on Saturday 29 at the Luna Park: 38 couples are to go to the finals plus 2 couples classified at the Buenos Aires City Tango Championship under the categories “senior tango” and “adult tango.” At, 7 pm, under the category “Stage Tango,” 42 couples will be competing to reach to the final to be held on Monday 31 at the Luna Park. Only 20 couples will get to the final.
DANCING IS QUITE OF A SEXY PLEASURE
This Friday the Tango World Championship and Festival will be offering tango lessons for all levels (one of the events with greatest success) at different time schedules: many people dared try, and many others just stopped by on Florida Street or came into Harrods to watch. At 2 pm, celebrated dancers Daniela Inés Peez Klein and Juan Miguel Expósito will be giving a class on “musicality and the expression of dancers” At the same time, instructors from the Mayoral and Elsa María School will be teaching tango to beginners. Admission is free.
TRIBUTE TO LUIS CARDEI
This Friday, at 1 pm, tango film projections will continue at Harrods with “El torcán” (Gabriel Arregui, 2008), paying tribute to singer Luis Cardei, a man who has always overcome life adversity with laughter. During his last days, he received popular recognition to his over 30-year “underground” career at barely known bars; a truly fair homage.

Este viernes a las 18 en Harrods, con la participación musical de Dema y su orquesta petitera, se presentará el libro “Tango Buenos Aires Agosto”, de los fotógrafos Fernando Dvoskin y Axel Alexander. Se trata de las imágenes que ambos profesionales obtuvieron durante la edición 2008 del Festival y Mundial de Baile, algunas de las cuáles se pueden ver en las gigantografías que embellecen la decoración del hall central de Harrods”. Esas imágenes, plenas de belleza y sentimiento, reflejan la particular mirada de Dvoskin y Alexander, dos profesionales de reconocida trayectoria en los medios gráficos más importantes de la Argentina.
TANGO LESSONS FOR EVERYONE

At 2 pm celebrated dancer Miguel Angel Zotto will be giving a fee-payable master lesson for advanced learners on “Turns and twists.” At the same time, instructors from the Mora Godoy School will be teaching tango to beginners. “STAGE TANGO” SECOND CLASSIFICATION ROUNDS
The Tango World Championship goes on with “Stage Tango” second classification rounds this Thursday at 11 am at La Trastienda (Balcarce 460, San Telmo). An expert panel of judges will choose those couples that on Friday will be competing on the semi-finals: “Salon Tango” at 11 am and “Stage Tango” at 7 pm, at Tango Porteño (Cerrito 570, opposite the Obelisco).
A YOUNG TALENT OF ARGENTINE POPULAR MUSIC
This Thursday at 7 pm, within the “Panorama” segment of the Tango World Championship and Festival, the young and talented singer Jesús Hidalgo will be performing at Harrods accompanied by guitar players Amílcar Valeriani and Emiliano Farina. This will be a unique opportunity to listen to and see one of the most recent tango talents of this first decade of the 21st century.
VIBES FROM “LA IDEAL”
This Thursday at 1 pm at Harrods' micro-cinema, the Tango World Championship and Festival is to present the film “Tango salón. La Confitería Ideal” (Jana Bokova, 2004), about the particular atmosphere prevailing at the milongas taking place in this traditional place, one of the most celebrated of Buenos Aires. With a kind but deep approach, the camera sneaks around all the elegant corners of the first floor salon were dancers appear as if having travelled back in time to recreate history.
MEETING HISTORY
This Thursday at 8 pm, legendary Quinteto Pirincho will be performing at the Harrods' milonga. This will be a perfect time to enjoy the neat technique and talent of a classical formation consisting of two violins, one bandoneón, a piano and double bass, one of the creations bestowed by Master Francisco “Pirincho” Canaro.
COZARINSKY´S DESIRE
This Wednesday, at 1 pm, at Harrods’ micro-cinema, visitors will be able to enjoy the projection of “Tango deseo” (2006, Edgardo Cozarinsky), within the film section of the Festival. The particular look of the talented Argentine writer, playwright, and filmmaker especially focused on tango, interpreted by Tangokinesis dancers, with choreographies by Ana María Stekelman.
